Last Wednesday I completed my last of 6 exams for the end of my second year of university... On Friday I left for America... Over 24 hours later I arrived in Sun Valley, Idaho (it was still Friday in America)... As you can probably imagine the past week has been full on, however it is a great feeling to finally be in Sun Valley. Yesterday I saved the 'Baby King' as part of my first session with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF). I feel this needs a bit more explanation: based on a true story from the Norwegian Middle Ages, the baby king, Prince Hakon, was saved by the Birkebeiners from the Baglers following the death of the his King father, our session was designed to somewhat recreate the journey the heroes had endured. Over the course of 3 hours and 20km we roller skied, ran, climbed mountains over 2000m high, crossed rivers, shot bow and arrows, built fires to cook sausages, threw axes into logs, shot targets with BB guns, and had our log sawing skills tested all while carrying the 'baby king' ( a 12kg weight plate) and feeling the effects of the high altitude! |
The session was more fun than I can put into words. It gave me a great introduction into the team environment that I will be a part of for the next 5 months. Unfortunately I did not get an opportunity to take any photos however will get some up shortly of life in Sun Valley.
